NIGERIA EDUCATION REFORM BEST BET.

By Chukwunulu Yetunde

RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS;
Bearing in mind, the fact that aptitude and interest frequently do not go together. That development of ability depends on the structure of school system. We are recommending that our state Ministry of Education ensure olden days school system. Where schools specialize for developing some kind of aptitudes. Are repackaged and instituionalize in secondary school levels. Examples technical schools instituted for spatial ability and abstract reasoning ability pupils. Grammar schools for simple verbal ability and verbal logical ability pupils. Sports academies for mechanical and numeric ability pupils. Science schools for data checking ability pupils, etc.

They also ensure that in all basic schools and tertiary scholls, groups or clubs are not only made compulsory, but effort be made they are functioning; that every student is a participating member of one of them.

Our reasons being that we have process, that have prove effective in solving aptitude selections, even in kids. You will recall this selection issue is reason, old education system was scrapped, and this comprehensive system of education institutionalize, with all its limitations

Moreso evidences have prove that education attainment and interactions is dependent upon temperaments, industriousness, parental encouragement, parental support, quality of teaching, general intelligence and above all SPECIAL ABILITIES.

GOING WITH THE DEFINITION OF THINKING IN PSYCHOLOGY, AS A CONNECTED FLOW OF IDEAS, DIRECTED TOWARDS SOME DEFINITE PURPOSE OR END.WE MAY FAIRLY SAY, THINKING TAKES PLACE WHENEVER WE ATTEMPT TO SOLVE A PROBLEM, AND THAT SOLVING USUALLY BUT NOT ALWAYS DEMAND SOME REASON. AND DEVELOPING THSE THINKING IS WHY, WE WANT TO MAKE AVAILABLE TO US, A PART OF OUR WORK(DYNAMICS OF MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT) TO AID US EFFECT THIS CHANGE FOR OUR GOOD. A CHANGE, WE ARE CONVINCE WILL STOP OUR PEOPLE FROM GOING TO SAY, GHANA, TOGO, BENIN REPUBLIC NOT MAKE MENTION OF QUITE DEVELOPED COUNTRIES FOR MEANINGFUL EDUCATION.

MORESO EVIDENCES HAVE SHOWN THAT PEOPLES REASONING PATTERN/APTITUDES, ARE CORRELATED WITH….

With these same DYNAMICS OF MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT, We have produce a book, whose preview we attache under this article. Hoping a partnership from … to publish and distribute it to our populace especially teachers, parents, manpower developers, youths, etc.

All these depositions are based on our knnowledge on the correlation between psychology and universal basic education program, which goes like this.

Psychology and universal basic education in Nigeria.

Introduction; the national policy on education (1981) highlights that the quality of instruction at all level of education. In Nigeria has to be oriented towards self-realization, better human relationship, individual an d national efficiency, effective citizenship, national consciousness, national unity, as well as towards social, cultural, economic, political, scientific, and technological progress, (FRN,1981). Thus, to attain the above, reducing illiteracy level among people of all ages, in Nigeria becomes sine-qua-non. In other words, the govt. must provide true education. Which is “not only the pursuit of certain courses of study. But the harmonious and wholesome development of the physical, the mental and the spiritual powers. Which prepare one for the joy of service. In this world and also for the higher joy of wider service. In the world to come”. Thus was the topic PSYCHOLOGY AND UBE IN NIGERIA.

Psychology is one of the specific course functions of guidance services available in schools, home, community, etc.

It literary means the study of the mind "breath, spirit, “soul and Logia” the study of an academic and applied discipline.

Involving the systematic and often scientific study of human/animal mental functions and behavior. Occasionally also

in addition or opposition to employing the scientific method. It also relies on symbolic interpretation and critical

analysis. Although it often does so less prominently than other social sciences, such as sociology.

Psychologist "professional theorist or practitioner of psychology" study such phenomena as perception, cognition, attention, emotion, motivation, personality, behavior and inter-

personal relationships. Some especially depth psychologist also study the unconscious mind.

Psychological knowledge is applied to various spheres of human activity. Including issues related to every day life.

Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior. While also

exploring the underlying psychological and neurological processes.

Psychology includes many sub-fields of study and application. Concerned with such areas as human development, sports,

health, industries, media, and law. Psychology incorporates research from the natural sciences, social sciences and

humanities.
PHILOSOPHICAL AND SCIENTIFIC ROOTS:
The study of psychology in philosophical context dates back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, China, India and

Persia. Psychology began adopting a more clinical and experimental approach. Under medieval Muslim psychologist and

physicians. Who built psychiatric hospitals for such purposes.

of the mind was largely based on interpretative methods, introspective methods, introspective and clinical observations,

and was focused in particular on resolving unconscious conflict, mental distress and psychopathology. Freuds theories became

aspects of psychological development.
BEHAVIORISM:

sophisticated. Could provide useful psychosocial understanding of a type. That is comparatively subjective inquiries.

HUMANISTIC PSYCHOLOGY:
It was developed in the 1950s, in relation to both behaviorism and psychoanalysis. By using phenomenology, inter-subjectivity

and first person categories. The humanistic approach sought to glimpse the whole person. Not just the fragmented parts of the personality or cognitive.

COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY:
This seeks to facilitate personal and interpersonal functioning across the lifespan. With a focus on emotional. social,

vocational, educational, health related, developed, developmental and organisational concerns. Counseling psychology has

In Nigeria has to be oriented towards self-realization. better human relationship, individual and national scientific

and technological progress. As well as towards social, cultural, economic, political, scientific and technological

progress(FRN,1981). Thus, to attain the above, reducing un productivity level among people of all ages in Nigeria becomes a

sine-qua-non. In other words, the Government must ensure the usage of our huge brilliant and skillful man powers

. To bring about training and retraining of the populace

Which prepare them for the joy of service in this world and also for the higher joy of the wider service. In the world to come. THUS THE TOPIC, PSYCOLOGY AND FIRST WORLD ATTAINMENT.

FUNCTIONS, OBJECTIVES AND SIGNIFICANCE OF UBE; UBE Fall within the level of education as a social service in Nigeria. Basic education encompasses the formal and non-formal approaches. For an all round development of the human potentials towards life-long education.

SPECIFICALLY, BASIC EDUCATION INVOLVES;
1. programs/ initiatives for early childhood care and educations

2. education programs. for the acquisition of functional literacy and life-skills.

3. special programs for nomadic population.
4. ensuring the acquisition of the appropriate level of literacy, numeracy, manipulation, communication and life-skills. As well the ethical, moral and civic values needed for laying a solid foundation. For life long education.

5. reducing drastically the incidence of drop-out. From the formal school system.

6. provision of free, universal basic education. For every child of school going age.

FACTORS IMPORTANT TO BE NOTED;
1. PUPIL FACTOR; The very early years of life. Up to the pre-adolescent years are irreplacedly. Important in the formation of the child's personality. Hence the need to observe and recognize potentialities and interest as soon as. The child leaves home to start formal education. The problems associated with the developmental stage. (physical, emotional, and intellectual). Can not be left unattended. Till a later date. Thus, psychological counseling services must be offered to pupils.

2. The teacher faSctor; the enrolment of pupils has resulted. In additional work. For the teachers. In the past, teacher combined teaching assignment. With advice giving. But with continous upsurge in pupils enrolment. Most teachers find it impossibly difficult. To cope with pupils demand. Consequently, the professional services of psychological counselors. Who would assist the students. To meet their affective or emotional needs. And if possible, their psychomotor demand are needed. Psychological counseling also ensures that the teacher. Identifies pupils with special needs. And make necessary referral.

3. The parental factor; the rapid social and economic changes. In Nigeria have made some parents. Pursue material wealth. At the expense of providing good care. For and paying necessary attention to their children. Rather than allowing children of school going age. To attend school, these children or wards. Are kept at home to assist. In providing for the family. A lot of children have become breadwinners. Some dropping out of school. While some combine petty jobs with schooling. Parental psychology counseling will enable parents. Release their children/ wards ,for learning.

4. The social factor; The UBE must be tagged a government program. All stakeholders must be involved and committed to its success. Psychological services like, information dissemination. Psychological and instrumental measurements, and assessment of goals. Must be sensitized and mobilized to ensure their participation. Community leaders, religious leaders, NGOs, all have a role to play. Government must also ensure its faithfulness. To the objectives of this topic
