SAN FRANCISCO, June 21, (THEWILL) – Air Nigeria has been grounded with immediate effect for the second time this month by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The suspension of flight operations of the airline owned by controversial businessman, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim was announced by the NCAA on Thursday, over Air Nigeria’s feared liquidity issues.

A statement from the carrier following the directive said, “The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended our flight operations effective immediately over alleged indications that the airline is in financial distress.

“We wish to apologize for all the inconvenience that this order by the NCAA will bring on our passengers and wish to assure that Air Nigeria will continue to liaise with the relevant agencies to ensure that the suspension order is lifted as soon as possible. Management.”

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has accused the airline and Mr. Ibrahim of dodging federal taxes for 5 years estimated to be around N4.86 billion, and forging a Tax Clearance Certificate.

FIRS on Wednesday sued the airline, Mr. Ibrahim (Chairman) and Mr. Kinfe Kahssaye, Managing Director in a 10-count charge.
