Queen mother speaks against indecent dressing by girls

Tsorxor (V/R), Nov. 23, GNA - Mama Mamle II, Chairperson of Zendo Queenmothers' Association, at the weekend described as a national calamity the style of dressing by young women and girls.

    
She appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to enact bye-laws that would empower queen mothers to deal with indecent dressing in their communities.

    
Mama Mamle, the queen mother of Klikor in the Ketu South District, made the appeal at the Zendo Glimetsoza Festival of the chiefs and people of the Zendo communities at Tsorxor in the North Dayi District.

   
The five Zendo communities that constituted the Zendo State under King Agorkorli of Notsie before the exodus of the Ewes to their present homes are Klefe and Tsibu in the Ho Municipality, Kpeve in South Dayi, Tsorxor in North Dayi and Klikor in Ketu South.

   
Mama Mamle said it was sad, indeed a disgrace to womanhood to see the young ones walking half naked in the name of modernity.

   
She said it was time young ladies who dressed indecently were called to order and appealed to religious bodies to help "eliminate indecent dressing from the Ghanaian society".

    
She also appealed to the courts to impose stiffer punishments on rapists and those who defile young girls.

    
Mr. Joseph Amenorwode, the Volta Regional Minister, lauded the efforts of the Zendo communities and said the festival was unique as it brought the five communities together to tackle their developmental needs and called for its sustenance.

    
He said the Vakpo/Tsorxor road had been awarded on contract and said work would soon begin.

    
Mr. Bernard Frank Amable, Ketu South District Chief Executive, called on citizens from the Zendo communities to put their expertise at the disposal of their various communities to ensure rapid development.

    
Togbe Akoto V, Fiaga of Tsorxor, spoke about accommodation problems facing teachers in the area and said funds realized at the festival would be used as seed money to build teachers' quarters.

    
He appealed to the government to consider as a matter of urgency placing Tsibu and Kpeve Old Town under the South Dayi District instead of Ho and Hohoe Municipal assemblies.

    
He said Tsibu is 49 kilometres from Ho but just 10 kilometres from Kpeve the South Dayi District capital and Kpeve Old Town is also separated from the capital by a road.
