TSAV WANTS END TO MISUSE OF POLICE ORDERLIES

By NBF News

A former Lagos State police commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, yesterday, wondered whether the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, is considering giving value re-orientation to policemen and women who serve as orderlies to top government officials and other prominent figures.

He observed that police orderlies have been acting 'slavishly and shameful', negating professionalism, and deriding the force.

He told Daily Trust that he saw a picture in the centre spread of yesterday's Aso Chronicle, a pull out of Daily Trust, which put him off completely.

In the picture, a police orderly carried a microphone to the lips of his principal, Oloye Olajumoke, Minister of State for FCT, during a public event in Kuje, Abuja.

'I saw this shameful picture; I was completely put off. Assuming his principal was under any security threat; what would the policeman do? Begin to drop the microphone, and go in search of his firearm?

'I have also seen police orderlies carrying handbags or briefcases for their principals slavishly. That puts me off. Sometimes I wonder whether it is the same force I joined and served with pride in those days. These orderlies are killing the police', Tsav said.

He said 'it is slavish, shameful and tantamount to misuse of police if principals would turn their orderlies into bag carrying or mic-supporting minions. The IGP must do something about this. The police need value re-orientation. Politicians are misusing the police. It must have to stop.'
