DEMOCRACY DAY: POLICE BEEF UP SECURITY

By NBF News

The Inspector General of Police said police should step-up security across the country during the Democracy Day celebrations yesterday.

Deputy Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba said in a statement that 'in order to ensure a hitch-free Democracy Day celebration, the IGP directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General and Command Commissioner to ensure that adequate security is provided at all venues of celebrations including venues of  workshops and symposium.  He also directed that adequate security be provided at all key government installations and vulnerable points across the country.'

The statement said the IG asked politicians to be law abiding and urged them to eschew acts capable of impacting negatively on 'our fledgling' democracy.'

He urged political actors particularly in Edo and Ondo states where gubernatorial elections are about to hold, to guard their utterances and conduct their campaigns in decent and civil manner.
