POLO: DEEBEE FARMS WIN ACCESS BANK CUP

The first stage of the ongoing Access Bank UNICEF Charity Shield International Polo Tournament came to a climax Sunday evening with DeeBee Farms from Kaduna upstaging Lagos Sub Riders to win the prestigious Access Bank Cup.

Watched by a capacity crowd that included the Kaduna Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ramalan Yero, the Kaduna based farmers who were trailing 4-81/2 with just one chukka to go, launched a late rally, scoring five un-replied goals to clinch their first Access Bank Cup title in a sensational 9-81/2 victory.

In what would go down as the most competitive Access Bank Cup in the annals of the prestigious polo fiesta, Sub Riders jumped into the front from the blast of the whistle, when their Argentine import, Fredrico Podoski passed out after clashing with the goal post while scoring to put the Lagos 31/2 goals up in the opening chukka.

Cheered on by their supporters, Sub Riders were coasting home for their first major title in the glamorous Access Bank powered Charity Shield event with a comfortable lead, until DeeBee Farms turn the final on its head with a dramatic last second goal by Diego White, to send the teeming Kaduna fans into wild jubilation.'This is unbelievable, nobody gave us a chance, but by sheer determination and the overwhelming support of our fans, we make it to the final and produced a stunning victory over hot favourites to win the glittering Access Bank Cup,' declared DeeBee Farms Patron, Dawule Baba.

Baba who is the Nigerian national team coach, thanked Access Bank Plc for bring out the best in his squad, the fans for their support and dedicated their first Charity Shield title to Bashir Hadejia who was the toast of the fans throughout their victorious campaign.

The Kaduna State Deputy Governor, who cheered every moment of the exciting Access Bank Cup final, presented the glittering Access Bank Cup to the winners.
