SIX KILLED IN KOGI ROAD CRASH

Six people yesterday died while 10 others sustained various degrees of injuries in a fatal road accident that occurred at Gegu along the Lokoja-Abuja highway.

A witness said the accident happened at about 9 am in Gegu villagein Kogi local government area of KogiState when a truck with registration number XA 679 DNG, conveying a large quantity of onions to the southern part of the country fell on a Toyota Hiace with number XD 762 and Golf wagon with number AE 256 TDU.

He said six persons died on the spot while 10 other sustained various degrees of injuries, saying that they were rushed to hospitals by FRSC rescue team for treatment. The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission,Mr. Michael Olapade, who confirmed the incident, blamed the drivers for the accident, saying that 28 people were involved in the road accident.

The sector commander also disclosed that the corpses were deposited at the Ideal Hospital, Koto-Karfe and Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, while those injured were taken to the same hospital for treatment.

He, however, attributed the accident to wrong over loading and dangerous overtaking, warning motorists to always exercise caution while on the highway.
