CONSTITUTION REVIEW C'TTEE MEETS IN PORT HARCOURT

The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution is in Port Harcourt for a three day retreat, which commences today.

A statement by Eziuche  Ubani,  chairman, sub-committee on media to the ad-hoc committee,  said, 'The retreat would provide an  opportunity for the committee to interface with members of the  public whose inputs and submissions in the constitution amendment  process are considered invaluable.'

Ubani, who said so far, the committee has received about 75 memoranda, said the committee is prepared to receive more.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, and former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwai  are among the resource persons.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri  Tambuwal is also billed to deliver a keynote speech while Garba Inuwa, chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures will deliver a goodwill message.

River State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is expected to present a keynote address as a special guest of honour at the event.
