Yenagoa-A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, yesterday, granted bail to 13 senior civil servants charged to court by the Bayelsa State Government in connection with the bloated wage bill of the state.

The suspects, made up of staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and the State Treasury, have been in police custody since their arrest last month.

Trial judge, Justice R. Aikwai, who admitted the accused to bail, adjourned further hearing till June 21.

The court held that the said offences, for which the accused were charged, were bailable. Each accused person was granted bail in the sum of N1million and a surety, who must be a senior civil servant resident in the state.

According to the court, each surety must have a landed property in the state. The court also ordered counsel to the accused persons to file a written application that the applicants would not interfere with the case as the investigation in the case was still on-going.
