The Senator representing Anambra South senatorial district, Dr Andy Uba, has denied that he had formally declared interest to run for Anambra State governorship election in 2014.

Senator Uba, in his reaction to a recent media report said, 'contrary to the media report that I had formally declared interest in the 2014 governorship election in my state, this is far from the truth. For now, I want to concentrate on fulfilling my election promises to the people of my district. We have just concluded an election, so to begin to talk of 2014 is not only too early, but an unnecessary distraction.

'My only task now is to positively impact on the lives of my people, who gave me their mandate to represent them in the Senate. 2014 is still a long way, so to begin to talk about it now is not only politically unwise, but distracting to the agenda of making life meaningful for my people.'

Senator Uba  added, 'I only went on a  thank you visit to my people for their support during the last re-run election, which it pleased God to make me victorious. I am committed to supporting the transformation agenda of my party, as well as President Goodluck Jonathan.

So, anybody reporting that I had formally declared interest in an election that is still years away is being mischievous. When you have been given a task or mandate, you must concentrate on it and not be distracted by insinuations.'
