OSUN PDP, ACN DISAGREE OVER CUBA TRIP

By NBF News

The ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have disagreed on the sponsorship of about 50 people, including students union leaders and human rights activists to Cuba by the state government.

While the opposition PDP described the action as a waste of resources of the state, the ACN said government action was aimed at equipping participants for the overall development of the state.

The delegation sponsored by the government to Cuba include royal fathers, commissioners for Information and Strategy, Culture and Tourism, and Women Affairs, traditional religion practitioners, farmers, women leaders, a market leader, a Special Adviser to the Governor, a medical doctor and members of collaborating political parties in the state.

Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon Bola Ajao, said the sponsorship of about 50 people from the state to Cuba was an attempt by the government to give military training to some people that would be used by the government to foment trouble in the state.  However, the ACN Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said, 'All efforts by PDP to frustrate those sponsored by the Rauf Aregbesola government from traveling to Cuba has eventually failed, as about 50 delegates successfully flew out of the country in two batches.'

According to Oyatomi, who disclosed that the delegation had arrived in Cuba, the purpose of the trip was 'to study the organization of cultural tourism especially, which the Cubans have perfected and transformed into economic mainstay, and to study the organization of massive events like the Cuban May Day, which is undisputedly the best in the world.'
