AMOSUN, KAKA'S CONVOY ATTACKED IN IJEBU IGBO

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun's  tour of local government areas almost ended sadly on Monday as hoodlums suspected to be political thugs attacked his convoy. Also attacked was the Senator representing Ogun-East Senatorial District, Alhaji Sherif Adegbenga Kaka while the duo were returning from Ijebu Igbo,  the headquarters of Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.

The hoodlums were said to have hauled stones at the governor's convoy at the notorious Station Road motor station in Ijebu Igbo while he was on his way to Abeokuta after a successful tour.

It was learnt that it took the combined efforts of security operatives including State Security Service (SSS) in the convoy of the governor, who engaged the suspected political thugs in a duel after which the governor escaped from the scene.

Although nobody sustained injury, Daily Sun learnt that Senator Kaka was the prime target of the hoodlums.

A reliable source told journalists that Kaka had incurred the anger of the hoodlums for his alleged failure to offer 'the boys' tangible inducement when he visited the place the previous week on a campaign tour.

The source said: 'When the garage boys demanded money from the Senator he only gave them N800, which was not to the delight of the members of the garage.'

They were said to have taken their pound of flesh when they learnt that Kaka was in town.

'The boys again approached Senator Kaka but refused to give them a kobo, thus an opportunity to carry out their plan of attacking the former deputy governor of the state,' the source added.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident, saying 14 people have been arrested over the incident and they are currently under intense interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Department.

The incident has however raised suspicious, among the ruling party that it was masterminded by the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State.

This allegation was dismissed by the party saying, 'there was no reason for them to have attacked the Governor who, according to them has been friendly to all the opposition parties in the state''.

According to the State Chairman of the party, Engineer Bayo Dayo, Governor Amosun had the support of its members who are currently serving at the State House of Assembly.

Dayo said, 'There was no reason for the party to have attacked the governor. Those who attacked him were mere miscreants who had issues to settle with Senator Kaka.

''He adds: '' We have no reason to have attacked the Governor, PDP can not attack the Governor, this is surely not a PDP affairs. We learnt that one or two of them have been arrested by the Police, if it was a PDP affair we would have gone to the police to bail them, they are not our member.', he declared.
