KANO, April 25, (THEWILL) - Residents and business owners around Mammy Market at 3 Mechanized Nigerian Army, Bukavo in the city of Kano were on Wednesday evening gripped by pandemonium when an Improvised Explosive Devices(IED) planted in a gutter in front of Dantata Shopping Complex exploded.

No life was lost in the explosion, which occurred some minutes before 7pm at the complex directly opposite the army barracks.

A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the IED was hidden inside a polythene bag and planted inside a gutter very close to the complex.

“People were returning to their various homes after a hard day’s job when the explosion occurred,” he said. “So, you can imagine the tension in the air. People ran in different directions. It is good to know that nobody died and nobody sustained injuries.”

Speaking to THEWILL later, Ikedichi Iweha, a lieutenant colonel, said the entire area surrounding the location of the blast was immediately cordoned off.
