RE: DISMANTLING OF CHECKPOINTS: POLICE IN ABAYET TO COMPLY WITH THE ORDER.

The Inspector General of Police' directive that all non-Inter-State road blocks be dismantled was communicated to all Formation Commanders in the State by radio on Monday 13th February, 2012. The Command Commissioner of Police Mr. B. A. Hassan, fwc personally went round the State to ensure compliance of same.

As at the time Pointblank News observed that Police in Aba metropolis had not dismantled road blocks, Abia Police Command had complied to the hilt. The Command has no doubt that the presence of Policemen with weapons and batons at strategic locations within Aba metropolis must have been misconstrued as road blocks. The dismantling of the roadblocks within the cities in a State should not be misconstrued as outright withdrawal of Police security operative from the roads. The Command therefore has no reason whatsoever to disobey IGP's order which is strongly believed is in the interest of the Society. While further complying with the IGP's directives and order, the Command wishes to assure the public of its readiness to adopt any strategy to ensure safety of their lives and property.
