Abia State Government wants to embark on solid health projects

By Ugochukwu Emezue

Abia State Government says its desire to embark on solid health projects was borne out of its passion to improve the health standards of the citizens, not minding costs.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Ugochukwu Emezue stated this when he played host to members of HEALTH WATCH INITIATIVE, a Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on health issues and development. According to Mr. Emezue, one of Governor Orji's target before he quits office in 2015 is to ensure that every Abian has unhindered access to health care services.

Mr. Emezue made it clear that from the outset, Chief Theodore Orji had carefully designed a health master plan for the State which is gradually being implemented. Apart from the free medical services being enjoyed by the citizens of Abia, the State Government has established a Modern Diagnostic Centre in Aba and Umuahia Mr. Emezue added.

He stated that the Government of Abia State will soon commission the state ultra-modern dialysis centre, while efforts are on to build more health centres besides the 210 existing ones.

Mr. Emezue hinted that Governor Orji will continue to focus on the welfare of doctors and other health workers in the state.

Leader of the HEALTH WATCH INNITIATIVE Dr. Ayo Ladi, said that they were in the State to critically assess the administration of Chief T. A. Orji in the sector.

He said he was impressed with what he saw especially the Diagnostic Centres which he described as a solid legacy for the people of the State. The team used the opportunity to announce Governor T. A. Orji as THE HEALTH AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR.

The award will be conferred on the Governor in Abuja later this year.
