UNODC to launch report, 'Establishing Independent Policing Oversight in Kenya: Challenges and Opportunities'

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 17, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- On Wednesday, 18th April 2012, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will launch the report, 'Establishing Independent Policing Oversight in Kenya: Challenges and Opportunities.'

UNODC intends to provide technical assistance and advisory services to Kenya in order to support the establishment of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority and the accompanying necessary administrative and policy infrastructure. The report intends to bring together the findings of a study gathering lessons learnt from other jurisdictions with independent police oversight structures similar to the one envisaged for Kenya.

The launch will be followed by a two day workshop on the subject of independent policing oversight with contributions from South Africa, England and Wales, Northern Ireland and India.
