MISA Announces Appointment Of New Regional Director

JOHANNESBURG, South-Africa, April 10, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Trust Fund Board (TFB) of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) is very pleased to announce that Zoé Titus has been appointed Regional Director. She has been acting in this position since November 1, 2011.

The Chairperson of the TFB, Luckson Chipare said: “We're delighted that Ms. Titus has agreed to take on this challenge. We're confident in her ability to take on the challenge of shaping strategic thinking for an active membership organisation, and encouraging partnerships and collaborations which can bring together journalists, media houses, free expression and media freedom activists. We look forward to her playing a key role in delivering our exciting new strategy.”

Titus said: “It's a great honour to take over the helm of this organisation which has been the main driver of media policy reforms in the region over the last two decades. Now, more than ever, journalists and media freedom activists must find innovative ways to proactively engage in the rapidly changing policy reform agenda in the region. Failure to do so will leave us to contend with laws that infringe more and more on the ability of the media to deliver on its responsibility of facilitating citizens' access to information on issues that affect their lives. I look forward to working with the MISA Board, chapters, staff and members to help fulfill the MISA vision of ensuring a conducive environment for media freedom and freedom of expression in southern Africa.”

Titus has served MISA in various capacities since 2001. She developed the organization's flagship 'SADC Journalists Under Fire' campaign which provides a mechanism for direct and immediate practical support to victims of media freedom violations. She has extensive experience in media policy reform, advocacy and strategy development.
