DICKSON CHARGES POLICE TO FIGHT CULTISM

Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has pleaded with the Nigerian police to help flush out cultists from the state. Dickson who recently got the approval of the acting-Inspector General of Police (IGP), Moahammed Abubakar, to set up a security task force to tackle cultism stated at a meeting with senior police officers in Yenagoa that government was ready to equip the police to fight criminals in the state.

The meeting, which was at the instance of Dickson, reunited him with some of his former colleagues in the Nigerian Police. While noting that government has absolute confidence in the ability of the police to tackle criminality in the state, he made it clear that his government would not tolerate crimes and urged the command to track down those still involved in violence and criminality.

'You must flush out this cult people. I am a man of the law, I do not have anything to do with the cultists, I do not belong to them. We have to work hard to rid the state of criminals. All the support you require, my government will give you. The government under me is the one that will not cut corners. My politics is not associated with thuggery and violence. In this state, there will be zero tolerance to criminality, to violence and thuggery. Go ye today and enforce the laws of this state and the country'

The Commissioner of Police, Mr.Chris Olakpe ,said his men had continued to track down criminals in the state and would require logistics support from government to increase patrol on the water ways. He said the command had a number of boats with competent mariners required to combat sea piracy.

Meanwhile, the Police have unveiled ten telephone numbers made available to members of the public in the fight against crime. The special numbers provided by Airtel is to cover all the divisions in the command as soon as it worked out the modalities on how rural communities could also benefit.
