Côte d'Ivoire / UNOCI chief meets Ivorian head of state

ABIDJAN, Côte d'Ivoire, March 9, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Bert Koenders, met with the Ivorian Head of State, President Alassane Ouattara, on Friday, 9 March 2012 to discuss issues linked to security and the Mission's support for Government actions.

“I also informed the President about my visit to the west of the country, and the co-operation between UNOCI (United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire] and the United Nations Mission in Liberia,” said Mr. Koenders at the end of the discussions, which lasted more than an hour, at the Ivorian President's residence.

According to the Special Representative, the discussions also included how UNOCI can continue to support the Ivorian Government with regard to political dialogue and security sector reform.

Yesterday, Mr. Koenders and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa, Saïd Djinit, were received by President Ouattara at the presidential palace.
