The Boko Haram insurgent group has in the early hours of Wednesday, clashed with soldiers in Maiduguri during a military raid which left one of the soldiers with severe gun injury.

According to Huhuonline.com / sources, members of the terrorist group made a surprise counter-attack and engaged the soldiers in a fierce shoot-out at Abaganaram ward for several hours, leading to the destruction of many vehicles and six tricycles.

Spokesman of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF), Lt. Col Hassan Mohammed, who confirmed the counter-attack by the sect members, said that 'at about 7.30am on Wednesday morning near the Customs Bridge in Maiduguri, gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a kiosk. The explosion destroyed some cars in the area.  However, no life was lost in the incident.'

He said that although no life was lost during the incident, the injured soldier has been placed under the Intensive Care Units (ICU) of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

He however warned those who indulge in harbouring wanted criminals and terrorists in their premises to henceforth desist from it and report suspicious persons to security operatives, as the sect's activities poses grave danger to innocent people.

'Members of the public are advised to report any threat to public property to security agents. Some group of hoodlums claiming to be members of the sect have engaged in the destruction of public property as two schools have been burnt within the metropolis in few days
