ANDY DOSTY THE “STAR BOY” OF ANGEL FM

By DJ Amess

One of the most popular voices on the airwaves in Kumasi since the advent of private radio station is no doubt that of Andrew Amoh a.k.a Andy Dosty currently with Angel 96.1 Fm. He has had a good time with radio that the mere mentioning of his name brings nostalgic memory as one of the few ones who have been able to hold their own to date since his days with Mercury Fm in 1997.

One thing which is clear during my visit to Kumasi is the fact that almost all the radio “giants” in the Garden city had had something to do with Mercury Fm before joining other stations and Andy Dosty is not exception.

He started as a mobile spinning DJ with Ghetto Boys before moving to Tokyo Sounds and finally to Podium Night Club where he was trained by One DJ Boh. But to me I think “Billy Ocean and Lovin' C were the ones who actually introduced me to the radio thing and I owned them a great debt of gratitude” he told Weekly Fylla.

Andy Dosty as he is popularly called has a good deal of air time and anytime he is on air he magically woo his listeners to his side until it's all over. Currently, he host the Brunch show in both Akan and English from 12 to 3pm and also host other interesting programs like Angel Party Mix on Saturdays from 3pm to 6pm.

During this period Andy Dosty could play as many songs as he can within a given period of time and when the phone lines are activated listeners are allowed to call into the program to tell him the exact number of songs he played and whoever get them collect he is given a prize. Also on Fridays he play old school (old Funky) from 6pm-10pm.

“When I left Mercury to Otech Fm something happened my first slot was only lasted for 30 minutes during Brunch time and shockingly I excelled and I was given more air time and slots” he revealed. He continued “I am not eluded about the fact that it is by the grace of God that I am able to execute all my assignment with proficiency”

Asked how long he hopes to remain at Angel Fm, Andy Dosty who never stops smiling and the lady's man, said he had not thought about leaving anytime soon but swift to add that he will like to own a radio school to train the young ones who want to be like him or better.

The cute young presenter, whose hairs do have been a concern to many people, is a quintessential Ashanti boy. He was born in Ankasi in the Ashanti Region to Mr. Kwame Amoh and Madam Elizabeth Owusu Achea a Headmistress of Akrom MA JH School and had his basic education in Kumasi before he got himself into Prempeh collage in Kumasi where for his O level in 1993/94.

He pursued his radio training at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation radio school where he was taken through the rudiments of radio presentation, by Charlie Sam and Harriet Techie Menson. Andy Dosty who has also featured in many films and operas such as Love Come Boy and Neighbors is also contemplating of coming out with All Stars Album which will future the likes of Kunte Kinte, Root 1, Dilute Lazzy Dog, KK Fosu, Okyeame Quame and Kwabena Kwabena, What an Album it will be.

Andy Dosty is single yet unavailable; he is a father of a baby boy called Daddy whom he named after his father. He was the first in the DJ Rothmans challenge competition in Kumasi and represented the Ashanti Region in the finals where he took the second position in 2003. He also took part in the maiden Presenters Guide competition. He admires international DJs like Qbert USA Dr. Faulikx of UK and Walt Babylove, the countdown of USA.
