MOURNING PROCESSION FOR OJUKWU HOLDS IN C-RIVER

CALABAR-People of Cross River State and the Igbo community in the state, yesterday, held a peaceful mourning procession (icho mmadu) for the late Biafran warlord Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.

The procession started from the U. J. Esuene Stadium Calabar, through Egerton Roundabout and back to the stadium.

Speaking to Vanguard after the procession, a member of the state burial committee, Chief Ugorji Nwabueze, explained that the committee was set up by the state government and the Igbo community to harmonize issues as well as get clearance from the security agencies for the procession.

Nwabueze said a full procession would take place on February 20, when there would also be a lecture on Defunct Eastern Region: Day of Reminiscences.
