GOD IS A POLITICIAN - GODLY POLITICS AND POLITICIANS (11)
“His position as Governor over the nations is forever. Which means He is still the governor over the nations today and shall continue to be? He is the Governor over America, Iraq, Libya, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, You name it. He is the Governor and his eyes behold them all. And one thing he hates is when a ruler or Governor becomes rebellious and exalts himself, when Nebuchadnezzar did it, God by His power ruled and “he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses, they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet will the dew of heaven; till he knew that the Most High God ruled in the Kingdom of men. And that he appointed over it whosoever he will” (Dan 5:21). The sole reason Nebuchadnezzar suffered and was humiliated for years was for him to recognize that God ruled in the Kingdom of men and that it was God that appointed him to over Babylon. One of the root causes of the afflictions and untold sufferings and calamities befalling many rulers and nations today is not far from this: That they may realize that God rules in the Kingdom of men and that He is the one that appoints them.”
From the underling definitions and scriptures, it could be seen that God is a politician – the Ruler of the earth, godly in disposition not seeking to scheme, maneuver, threatening the life of other people or recruiting people to assassinate opponents, cause ethnic and political violence or rigging to continue as a ruler but God is regulating and governing the nations (people) for the preservation of its safety, peace, and prosperity. God is also defending the people against evil forces, protecting and managing the resources of the earth to better the lots of his creation. God is a godly politician. What are our politicians doing? Encouraging violence, threatening to shed blood if they did not win election, saying they will go on exile if the incumbent wins.
Using thugs and secret cult’s members against opponent. Embarking on foul means to win election. Buying votes and scheming to rig elections and manipulating people and mismanaging the resources of the people is their way of politics. This is not of God. It is not godly. It is of the devil. Satan started it in heaven to gang up against God’s rulership by enlisting a third of the angels to dethrone God. He failed. And all those who uses his ways in playing politics will fail in this dispensation. Christian politics is different from secular politics. We Christians in politics must play Godly politics. Politics void of violence, rigging elections, encouraging thuggery and engaging in dishonest and subversive activities against those in authority.
May I conclude with this excerpt from Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria write-up on “Christian preparedness for venturing into the political terrain”. It reads: “Man had gone astray and God at the fullness of time (Galatians 4:4-7) through the salvation work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary delivered man and restored him to the original status quo. A legitimate and well brought up son or daughter is the appropriate person to manage the estate of the father. An estate represents the whole of a person’s property. It could also represent a class in society sharing in the government of a country. In modern Britain, two of the three estates are the lords spiritual and the lords temporal then the Commons. “We are convinced that corruption in politics is a spiritual question, which can only be countered not by regimentation or legislation but by honesty and integrity. Honesty and integrity can only be the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We need to maintain a spiritual perspective on these secular issues of corruption and related vices. You as a Christian should be the solution and not the problem of corruption. Our understanding is that it is a legitimate, inalienable right and responsibility of regenerated Christians to be fully involved in politics just as they are fully involved in Evangelism.
