We are pleased to invite you to cover the opening of the 30th East African Model United Nations on Tuesday 14 February 2012 at 9.00 a.m. The conference This year the theme for the conference is “Promote Cultural Diversity”. The conference will close on Friday 17 February at 1.15 p.m.

EAMUN is a simulated sessions of the General Assembly, Security Council, Ecology and Environment, Economic, Health, Human Rights, Political and Technology committees in which students represent member countries as delegates. The program has continued to grow and evolve over the years into a successful conference that provides tremendous learning opportunities to all students taking part in it.

Model United Nations began around the world as early as 1923, with simulated sessions of what was then called the League of Nations. These sessions are now held in numerous countries at all levels, ranging from high schools to universities and adult MUN sessions.

This year's conference has attracted a thousand delegates from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, D.R.Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Sweden. For the first time students from Rwanda will also participate.

The opening of the conference was preceded by a tree planting activity by delegates which took place on Saturday 11 February 2012 at the Kereita Forest in Lari Division. Tree planting is part of the initiative to build leadership for tomorrow and promote environment and sustainable development. Students will also be involved in recycling left over paper from the conference.

The delegates are between ages 14 and 19 years old and will represent various committees, namely: Human Rights, Ecology, Economic, Political, Security Council and Special Summit
