Govt Moves To Avert 'Boko Haram' Incident

As part of the measures to check the activities of the religious sect, Boko Haram, from spreading to Plateau State, the Early Warning and Early Response Team has been constituted by the government under the inter-faith mediation centre, comprising representatives from the Christian and Muslim faith, as well as traditional and community leaders from Jos metropolis.

Co-executive Director of the forum, Dr. Mohammed Nure Ashafa, informed the state governor, Jonah Jang, that the team was an adopted model of the experience from Kaduna State that had recorded success in averting crisis in the state. He added that the team, which was created after consultations with stakeholders, had 40 women, 40 youths, 40 religious leaders and 40 traditional rulers, who would act as mediators between government, security personnel and various communities during crisis situations.

Ashafa disclosed that the team, which had worked extensively in the southern zone of the state, had in partnership with the Japanese and Canadian governments empowered people by providing milling machines.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, expressed gratitude to the forum for enhancing peace in the state. According to Tallen, " peace is the number one item in the 10-point agenda of the administration, because without it there will be no progress and development."
