EKITI PDP SLAMS FAYEMI OVER LG CARETAKER CHAIRMEN, SUSPENSION OF LAWMAKERS The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has described the planned appointment of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chairmanship candidates in the botched Council elections as Caretaker Chairmen as fraudulent and an attempt to secure electoral mandate to rule the 16 local councils in the State for the ACN candidates through the backdoor.

The party also accused the ACN governor of the State, Kayode Fayemi of plotting the suspension of Hon Bunmi Oriniowo and Hon Dele Ajibola, the two PDP members in the House of Assembly for deposing to an affidavit in support of the party (PDP) case against the appointment of ACN members as members of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), describing the planned suspension of the two PDP members is a direct invitation to an unprecedented crisis in the State.

State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo, alleged in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti today that the ACN governor of the State, Kayode Fayemi has concluded plan to swear in the new caretaker chairmen on Tuesday, “having used his rubber stamp House of Assembly to sack the councils' caretaker committee on Friday.”

Olu-Ojo said the PDP in Ekiti State would fight the use of Caretaker Chairmen to run the State local councils and the planned suspension of the two PDP members the way it fought the appointment of ACN members as members SIEC.

While admonishing Governor Fayemi to stop perpetrating illegalities in the State, Olu-Ojo said; “It is highly ridiculous that a governor, who came into office through the judiciary is the one ruling Ekiti State like a banana republic.”

The PDP chairman said it would amount to bringing the ACN candidates into office through a black market arrangement if people whose elections could not be held on Saturday are now made to assume office tomorrow as caretaker chairmen.

Olu-Ojo also alleged that Vice-Chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the ACN are to be appointed as Secretaries to the Local Councils and Ward Development Officers respectively, adding that; “Fayemi is doing all these so as to sustain his continuous pilfering of the Local Council funds.”

“Since he assumed office through the Salamic judicial magomago, Fayemi has not allowed the local councils to function.

“As at today in Ekiti, no local council can spend N50, 000 without getting approval from the governor. Yet, these people go about parading themselves as champions of true federalism in Nigeria.”
