OMOTOLA'S WIDOW'S MITE
Not everyone feels the pain and sorrow of widows but those with a large heart do. Sultry actress, Omotola, whose mother was a widow before passing away 10 years ago, knows what widows experience.
With her large heart, she recently offered to come to the aid of some of them in Lagos. The event, tagged The 20 Widows Makeover, was to encourage widows that have strived to keep the home front in order despite the demise of their spouses.
Omotola is well known for her charitable works, especially among youths through the Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Youth Empowerment Programme, with children as a UN WFP ambassador and Amnesty International where she has campaigned to end maternal mortality among women.
The 20 Widows Makeover was aimed at pampering these women and helping them boost their confidence and self-esteem. The widows were treated to a first class beauty regime, which comprises a total makeover with facials and massage by Upmobile Fresh Look Spa and celebrities choice, H and H Spa. The women had their hair done by celebrity hair stylist Ugo at Make Me, and make-up by House of Tara.
They were also treated to a shopping spree with clothes from Every Woman and finally a photo shoot with celebrity favorite photographer, Kelechi Amadi Obi.
Food was in abundance with Unforgettable Cupcakes from Mossy Ella Bakers and drinks from Chivita. It was a one of its kind experience.
The widows went home with various gifts such as designer pots and other cooking utensils, a bag of rice each, make-up kits from House of Tara and words of encouragement from Pastor Tessy of Jesus My Shepherd Church.
They will also receive a framed portrait each of their best looks.
Speaking about the programme, Omotola said: 'I imagined doing something I wished I or someone had done for my mother. If you give these women money, they would spend it on their kids. This time it's about them. When my mother was alive, I didn't know I was going to lose her so soon.
She was a very beautiful woman, but because of all her struggles, she neglected her personal needs. She didn't get to enjoy all these things like going to the spa and going shopping. So this is one thing I could have loved to do for my mum who was a widow for 10 years. It was lovely and fulfilling to see the entire transformation and I am really grateful to all that helped to ensure this happen.'
