Ministry of Education,
Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

Dear Sir,

A case of Accounts racketeerism, and other auxiliary compromise of the sanctity of the University of Benin's financial system by the Bursary Department; a call for dispassionate investigation and overhaul.

It is sacrilegious to say the least, a situation where University's financial secrets are peddled about in every streets and lanes in Edo State, amongst the least relevant persons to the federal institution on account of treacherous indiscretion, dereliction of duties and desperate moves to undermine the overall administration of the University; because of selfish desire to continue as a Bursar or Acting Bursar or Personal Assistance to the University's Bursar, or to sustain the cabal that unscrupulously appropriate University's Bank accounts to godsons and god-daughters in the banking sector. It is instructive to state that Uniben Bursar (Mrs. Nwoye) has long been recommended for sack and unconditional disbandment by the federal Government Visitation Panel on account of her collision to with others to undermine accounting procedures of the institution; it is disheartening that years afterwards, she is still sustained by some centrifugal forces led by a former Vice Chancellor and a State Security Agent whose brief has been to embarrass the Uniben's security personnel. We will commit the last drop of our blood to evacuate these tendencies; hence we seek your intervention Sir.

As a dependable stakeholder in the overall development of the University of Benin, we (Members and Trustees of U.D.S.F.) have been doing our best to address glaring abnormities without recourse to the press, because we believe that our dear President (Mr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR) deserves the patriotic supports of all Nigerians more than ever before, in order to attain a more secured and developed pedestal for all Nigerians. Our resort to respectfully address this protest to you is because the “General Officers Commanding” of the University's Bursary Department have resolved to consolidate their retrogressive machinations which are capable of running the University's image aground; victimize our active members who are staffs; and have vowed that our over nine protest letters earlier addressed to the Bursar will remain 'impotent' despite their lofty objectives to the institution. We therefore reasoned that, since the Vice Chancellor and other management officers have been frustrated from intervening in a manner that will savage the fractured University's financial system; it was expedient to register this august appeal to the Honorable Minister in a bid to savage what is left of the denigrating sector of the University; given the Bursary cabal's penchant for illegal tax deductions from junior and senior staffs without remittances to the relevant Government internal revenue boards; concocting devious blackmails and calumny in the minds of students and staffs against the Vice Chancellor and management as a whole. We humbly appeal to the Honorable Minister to dispassionately checkmate any attempt by the University's management to reinstate Mrs. Nwonye as Bursar or stop her from proceeding on the mandatory annual leave at the expiration of her tenure this December 2011.

Sir, it a common knowledge in the University of Benin to find the Bursar holding secret custody of idle Bank accounts of the University for as long as four years without the Vice chancellor and top officers knowledge; designating tuition and other school fees in Savings Accounts in some Banks against the General Practice of lodging such fees into approved current accounts; racketeering of 'golden' bank accounts in favor of the cabal's stooges who are Bank managers. These nefarious tendencies have pitched the cabal in the financial system against the apostles of University of Benin's reformation led by the Vice Chancellor; they resorted to the concoction of all kinds and shapes of anonymous threats and petitions against top management of Uniben. As an Association of Academic and Non Academic staffs, Pensioners and Alumnus of the University of Benin (U.D.S.F.) is frontally committed to the restoration of the values of dignity of labour, sanctity of the University's financial and audit sectors, institutionalization of a teaching and learning environment that is devoid of treacherous tendencies amongst students, staffs and management officers. This is why the time to bid unceremonious goodbye to Nwoye should be NOW, to save the institution from self-inflicted (moral) implosion.

It is on record that more than four of our colleagues lost their jobs in Salaries and Wages Department as a result of over inflation of salaries in millions of Naira; and many delicate fraud that are daily perpetuated in the institution. We therefore solicit your dispassionate intervention to salvage what is left of the denigrating image and goodwill of the University; as a result of the over ambitious tendencies of a centrifugal cabal led by one Mr. Onokhoraye who pride himself as godfather of the University's Bursar. We seek your prudent investigation as we are prepared to honor any invitation for official appearance in furtherance to this clarion call.

We keep an open mind; and a conscious watch on unfolding events.

Dr. Silas Oghenovo Orhege- Secretary General
Mrs. A. Imarhiabe-Ukachukwu – Publicity Secretary.
