Akpabio Signs Akwa Ibom's N407B 2010 Appropriation Into Law

UYO, December 30, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio Friday signed the 2012 appropriation Bill totaling N407.8 billion into law. The state budgeted N419 billion for 2011.

A breakdown shows that N341 billion was earmarked for Capital Expenditure while N66.2 billion would be spent on Recurrent Expenditure.

Recall that Akpabio had on Tuesday, December 6, this year presented a budgetary proposal of N397.1 billion to the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly for deliberation and passage into law.

While signing the bill at the executive chamber of the governor’s office in Uyo, Akpabio explained that Capital Expenditure got 80 per cent of the budget while Recurrent Expenditure got 20 per cent.

He expressed appreciation to the State House of Assembly for the quick passage of Appropriation Bill, while lauding the harmony and cordial working relationship existing among the three arms of government in the state that has resulted in the uncommon transformation recorded by the state in his first term.


He however pledged government’s poise to implement the budget to the letter by delivering on all the proposed projects in order to create employment opportunities. He announced that the state government has commenced the construction of Akwa Ibom State Sports Stadium and would soon commence the dualization of Ekom Iman- Etinan Road and Etinan-Eket Road as well as Uyo-Ikot Ekpene Road to ease traffic.
