A stray bullet from a cult clash between two rival groups on Sunday night   in Ovom, Yenagoa,Bayelsa State , killed a 65-year  old  ex-soldier simply identified  as  Mr. Billy. Federal Medical Centre(FMC) in the state capital by some sympathizers , where he

died after  a few hours.
 
Billy, who  hailed  from  Okunbiri, Sagbama local government  of the state    was immediately  rushed to the His corpse has been deposited at the morgue of  the FMC. It was gathered that a man in his thirties was also hit on his leg by a stray bullet resulting from the cult war.

 
Ovom a highly populated area is associated with  cult  and other related criminal activities .

The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Yenagoa.

Eyewitness account told National Mirror yesterday that  trouble started at Ovom  along the location of  Bishop Dimieri Grammar School are  , where a cult war erupted between two gangs at about 8pm.

They shot sporadically  as tension heightened in the area.

It was learnt that residents of the area scampered for safety as some business premises where forced to shut down immediately.

Casualty rate  among the warring cult members was not ascertained as at press time.

Contacted , Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) Eguavoen Emokpae(ASP) said he was not aware of the incident as the matter has not been reported to the command.
