Quite unlike competitions, the new Volkswagen Tiguan combines the versatility of an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) and functionality of a mainstream crossover, its German makers affirmed. Currently ranked among one of the most enchanting SUVs, Volkswagen says the Tiguan is a niche where economy and utility collides with upscale appointments and badge recognition.
Designed to taste with premium cabin appointments and European driving manners, the Tiguan comes equipped across board with turbocharged engine, self-possessed ride handling and top safety scores.
Anurag Shah, Brand Manager, (Volkswagen passenger vehicles), The Volkswagen Centre, Lagos said this much at the presentation of the all new Volkswagen Tiguan.
He said the interior of the Tiguan is a welcome departure from the plastic-trimmed cabin of most typical compact crossovers. Explaining that the quality of materials used in the Tiguan compares with premium brands like Audi, Anurag said the Tiguan interior wields a robust construction that eclipses that of competitions in the segment. And couple with its European ancestry, Volkswagen Tiguan exhibits implausible road manners that put it ahead of rivals, the brand manager said.
'The Tiguan's styling cues places it somewhere between the larger VW Touareg SUV and smaller VW Golf hatchback.' Beginning with the 2011 model, the Tiguan inherited a new grille and a robust dazzling looks that justifies its solid build. Also included as standard on the Tiguan are antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags.
As with most vehicles in the Volkswagen line-up, the Tiguan boasts a premium-style cabin that approaches Audi in its overall sense of quality with high-end materials, solid craftsmanship and actual metal trim that ensures premium feel. Tiguan's firm and well-shaped seats provide ample support whether you're logging lots of miles on a road trip or simply negotiating a freeway cloverleaf. What's more, the 60/40-split-folding rear seat has a cargo pass-through in the middle such that its adept makes ample room for cargo and passengers at the same time.

Available in three trim levels S, SE and SEL, the base 'S' model comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, air-conditioning, cruise control and a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped multifunctional steering wheel. These are in addition to the front and rear fog lamps, keyless entry, cloth upholstery, eight-way manually adjustable front seats and eight-speaker stereo with a CD / MP3 player and an auxiliary audio jack.
The SE however adds 17-inch wheels, additional chrome exterior trim, a power-adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, sports package, and leather upholstery with upgraded touch-screen stereo, rain-sensing wipers, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
However, Tiguan SEL offers fashionable features such as 18 inch sport wheels, panoramic sun and moon roof, keyless go, park distance control with park assist, xenon headlamps and drowsiness detection.
A speedy enthusiastic machine, Volkswagen Tiguan is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-inline that produces 180 horsepower with all-wheel drive and seven-speed automatic transmission.
Recent performance test reveals that all-wheel-drive SEL accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds while its EPA-estimated fuel economy is averaged at 20 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined for both front and all-wheel-drive models driving the automatic transmission model.
Brake test similarly affirmed all-wheel-drive Tiguan 4Motion came to a stop from 60 mph in 126 feet, and in a European government crash test, the Volkswagen Tiguan was awarded perfect five stars in all front and side crash test categories.
