SAN FRANCISCO, December 8, (THEWILL) – Retired Rear Admiral John Gboribiogha Jonah has emerged the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson.

The PDP submitted their names today to the electoral commission just before the December 11, 2011 deadline when all political parties must submit the names of their candidates to INEC according to electoral laws.

The Bayelsa Governorship election is scheduled for February 11, 2011.

However, the controversy surrounding the Bayelsa State PDP ticket is still a matter that the courts would have to resolve as current Governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva (PDP) still insists that he is the candidate of the party having received a certificate of clearance from the first screening panel that interviewed aspirants.

Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali in a statement Thursday thanked all stakeholders, leaders and members of the party who contributed to the success of the nomination of the pair. He said the submission of their names has brought the nomination process to an end.

The party urged party men and supporters “to rally round our gubernatorial flag bearers and ensure that the party convincingly wins the forthcoming election.”
