LAGOS - Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has berated Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, over its comments on the recent confirmation of Mrs Roli George as a member of National Population Commission, NPC.

PDP, in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, commended the Senate for rising above sentiments, parochialism in the interest of the nation.

It stated that though the ACN Senators, especially Remi Tinubu and Gbenga Ashafa, had raised objections to the nomination of Mrs George, accusing her of not being a Lagosian nor contributed to the development of the state, it welcomed the confirmation.

It said: 'There is no doubt that this is in bad faith and we wonder the moral standard these two Senators have to bring up such allegations when Senators Remi Tinubu and Gbenga Ashafa are themselves not indigenes of Lagos State at all, but now representing Lagos State at the Senate. Where were they when a major appointment for a Lagos indigene was given out? They sat at the Senate chambers and tacitly supported the constitutional aberration.'

'This time around, their plan to stop the nominee was jointly put together with fifth columnists within Lagos PDP as conspirators. They failed woefully and will continue to fail unless they adopt the style of constructive criticism.'
