OGUN NMA BOSS URGES TIGHTER BOARDERS OVER FAKE DRUGS

ABEOKUTA- The Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Ogun State chapter, Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki, yesterday, urged the Federal Government to tighten security at the nation's borders against importation of fake drugs.

Alayaki, who spoke during this year's Physicians Week with the theme; 'Combat drug resistance; no action today, no cure tomorrow,' held in Abeokuta, lamented the havoc done to the people by fake drugs, suggesting that, any country or firm found importing fake drugs into Nigeria should be dealt with by placing them on embargo.

He commended the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its efforts towards combating the menace of fake drugs in the country, urging the government to do more in the fight.

Also speaking at the event as a guest lecturer, Head of Drug Information, Service Unit, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Odunfa Oluwagbenga who gave lecture on ' rational use and drug

resistance, said, the growing threat from resistant organisms calls for concerted action to prevent the emergence of new resistant strains and the spread of existing ones.
