The ongoing trials trailing the last general election, recorded more shocking decisions yesterday with the Supreme Court ordering the re-trial of the petitions filed by Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) gubernatorial candidates in Akwa Ibom and Benue States, Senator James Akpanudoedehe and Prof. Steven Ugbah respectively.

The apex court's decision concided with nullification of the election of Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), paving the way for Senator Ahmed Makarfi to return to his seat in the Senate again to represent Kaduna North Senatorial zone of Kaduna State.

In another notable judgement, the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri upheld the election of Senator Chris Anyanwu of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) representing Imo East. She defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Kema Chikwe.
