What is God’s will concerning same-sex marriage?

There has been a lot of controversy concerning same-sex marriage. Some people are in support, some are vehemently against it, and there are those who are confused, while some others don t know whether or not it is wrong. There are even some bishops who not only support it but also engage in homosexuality.

Sometime ago, I read about a family where both parents were women. The adopted children called the male figure in the same-sex marriage Dad, but when referring to her, they used she because indeed, she was still a she inspite of what she did and tried to make people believe. To know the truth and the correct opinion about same-sex marriage, we need to:

1) turn to God, the One who created human beings and instituted marriage and sex, to know His words and will,

2) know the purposes of marriage. 1) What does the Bible say about it? The Bible does not directly mention samesex marriage but it says a lot to condemn homosexuality and its practice, and if homosexuality is not God s will, then it is obvious that same-sex marriage is not God's will. Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, it is a detestable sin. (Leviticus 18:22) NLT Do not be deceived.

Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. (1Corinthians 6:9-10) Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.

Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. (Romans 1:26-28) The plans and will of God were first revealed in the book of Genesis. God created male and female.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Genesis 1:27) Procreation was one of its purposes. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply. (Genesis 1:28) Then God made Eve for Adam so he would not be alone.

18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.

19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of t he air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.

20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field.

But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

23 And Adam said: This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2: 18 -25) When God wanted to create a companion for Adam, He could have made another man but he did not, He made a woman, with a womb to have children. She was different from the man in some ways yet alike.

Adam was pleased to the extent that he exclaimed, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

The Bible adds that God looked at everything He had made, the man and the woman, (both naked) and indeed it was very good. It was a perfect creation, and God was pleased.

Thereafter, whenever marriage is mentioned in the Bible, it is between a man and a woman. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.[

24]Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

[25]Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (Ephesians 5 :23-25) Many years later, when some people asked Jesus concerning marriage, He took them back to the beginning, reminding them of God s words.

He left them in no doubt concerning God's will: marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman, till death do them part. 4 And He answered and said to them, Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh ?

(Matthew 19: 4-5) In verse 4, Jesus wondered as he asked them, Have you not read that & This statement revealed that He expected the people to h ave read and known the will of God concerning marriage. If they had known, they would not have done some things. Lack of information can lead to destruction.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6) Mark 10:6 puts it a little differently. But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.

The means that the will of God remains the same, it has not changed. Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled. (Hebrews 13:4) 2) The purposes of marriage.

Four of the purposes of marriage are: for procreation, guard against immorality, companionship and to typify Christ's relationship with the church.

The normal way for procreation is for the man and his wife to come together and that was why God designed our bodies the way He did for a perfect fit that could produce children. What is God's will? Marriage should be between a man and a woman.

All other forms are wrong and ungodly. And as I like to say, behind every evil is the devil. Satan wants to steal, kill and destroy but God wants to give us life. He does not wantanyone to perish but that all may come to repentance.
