LAGOS IN FINAL TRAINING FOR TOURNEY

LAGOS State are putting finishing touches to their build up to the 4th National School Sports Festival tagged Calabar 2011.

The Guardian leant that over 300 athletes would represent the state at the multi-sports championship, while officials of the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) have assured of a hitch-free competition.

The Lagos State contingent for the championship have intensified their training at Teslim Balogun Stadium and Rowe Park, while the team is expected to depart for Calabar on Monday.

However, the Cross River State Commissioner for Sports, Raymond Obeten has reaffirmed the readiness of the state to host over 10000 students across the country at the multi-sports championship.

The tournament kicks off on Monday November 14 to 24 with the aim of unearthing more talents for the country.

17 scoring events and five demonstration sports will feature at the championship. The scoring events to be featured according to him are – athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, scrabble, and swimming. Others are table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.
