Enugu council of NUJ to honour Gov Akpabio, Senator Ayogu Eze Others

The Enugu State council of the NUJ plans to honour five Nigerians as part of activities to mark the end of the year.

A statement from the council said the five had distinguished themselves in their different careers.

The statement released on Tuesday said the event would take place on Dec. 16.

The statement, signed by the state chairman of the union, Mr Rockefeller Ogboso, said Gov GodswillAkpabio of Akwa Ibom would be honoured as NUJ's Governor of the Year.

A seasoned politician and philanthropist, Mr Arthur Eze, would be honoured with the Man of Year award, while Sen. Ayogu Eze would bag the Distinguished Senator's award.

According to the statement, a member of the House of Representatives, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and a one-time Commissioner for Public Utilities in Enugu State, Chief Nnoli Nnaji, would receive community service awards.

The statement added that the union resolved to honour Akpabio with the Governor of the Year award as a result of his commitment to the transformation of the socio-economic and political landscape of his state since assumption of office.

It said the ceremony, to be declared open by Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, would be preceded by a lecture entitled: ``African Leaders and Politics of Sit-Tightism'' which would be delivered by Akpabio.
