PORT HARCOURT, November 04, (THEWILL) – A gang of armed men Friday evening ambushed a bullion van transporting cash for one of the commercial banks in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, killing two policemen escorting the van.

The robbery occurred in the Rupoku part of town. It is however unclear how much money was carted away during the attack.

Eyewitness had narrated that seven policemen were killed during the ambush, but Rivers State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Suleiman Abba, said only two officers lost their lives.

“It is true that two of my men and not seven were killed today, but I am yet to be briefed,” Abba stated when THEWILL contacted him.

Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise in Port Harcourt in the last two quarters with the police force suffering many casualties.
