Popular Yoruba Actress Docked For Attempted Murder

Just as the Nigerian entertainment industry prepares to receive Yoruba comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, alias Baba Suwe, after his travails at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on suspicion that he ingested drug, another actress in the

 Yoruba movie sector of Nollywood, Bimbo Akinsanya, has been docked for sponsoring the attempted murder of a cleric in Lagos State.

Bimbo, who was arrested and detained by men of the Nigeria Police, was brought to the Ikeja Magistrate Court where she was arraigned for attempting to murder Rev. Pat Ogechi Dennah by conspiring with two other accomplices who are still being searched for by the police.

The actress, in the two-count charge brought against her by police prosecutor Barth Nwokedi, was said to have committed the offence punishable under the laws of the State with his co-accused on October 28, 2011 at 20, Samuel Street, Akowonjo, Egbeda area of Lagos for allegedly hiring an unidentified young man who shot Pastor Dennah, in a bid to kill her.

The charge sheet read that the actress "did point Rev. Pat Ogechi Dennah to a boy yet to be identified, to kill her and the said boy shot her with a gun and wounded her on her left shoulder and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 338 of the criminal code cap C17 Vol. 11 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003."

She was however granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties to be resident in Lagos by the Magistrate, Mr A.O. Isaac, after she pleaded not guilty to the charges. The matter has been adjourned till November 30, 2011 for trial.
