ARMY CHIEF LAMENTS PREVALENCE OF CRIMES WITHIN BARRACKS

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Onyeabor Ihejirika has called on military personnel to show some vigilance within the military barracks especially in face of daunting security challenges in the country. General Ihejirika who spoke at the opening of the 2011 edition of the training week for the Protestant Chaplaincy of the force, assured the personnel that efforts are on to nip in the bud some of the problems created by the security challenges.

Ihejirika who was represented by the Commander Corps of Signals of the force, Major General Akusiobi Obinali Colly Ariahu, likened Nigerians to biblical Children of Israel in their battle with the Amalekite, assured that victory is sure for the country.

He lamented the prevalence of some social vices within the barrack, such as armed robbery, rape and abortion, adding that the theme for the training week is apt to ensure the eradication of these vices. Earlier the Director of Protestant Chaplain of the Force, Colonel Dawuk Danfulani revealed that the chaplaincy has taken far-reaching decision aimed at tackling the crisis.

Colonel Danfulani said the Chaplaincy is worried about the level of insecurity in the country, but added adequate security measures have been taken to tackle the problems of security within worship centres inside the barracks. For instance, he explained that apart from applying spiritual means, including fasting and praying to tackle the problems, the directorate has purchased some detective devices to screen our worshippers.

Apart from these, Colonel Danfulani said that the directorate has plans to checkmate idle minds within the barrack , especially with the purchase and distribution of sets of computers around the divisions of the army to properly engage the youths within the barracks.
