Umuahia-Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, EHOAN, has called on the National Assembly to hasten the passage of the Environmental Health Control Bill before it, saying that it would enhance environmental health practice in the country.

Rising from its 44th Annual National Conference/Scientific Workshop in Umuahia, Abia State capital, the association said the bill when passed into law would improve the health of the citizenry.

In a communiqué issued  at the workshop and signed by the Chairman of the drafting Committee, Mr. Telena Dagoni, and the Secretary Mr. Ejike Obi, the association also called on the three tiers of government to engage the services of more environmental health officers in order meet the World Health Organization recommended ratio for effective preventive healthcare system.

According to the association, WHO's acceptable recommended ratio is at least one environmental health officer to eight thousand people, which for now is far from being met in the country.
