UNILEVER PROMOTES SCIENCE, REWARD STUDENTS WITH SPONSORSHIP

The Third  International Association of Dentists Researchers (IADR) Conference in Abuja came to an end with Unilever Nigeria Plc announcing its sponsorship package for the two prize winners of Unilever Hatton Competition.

The winners, Azodo Clement Chinedu and Nwangi Lizah from University of Benin and University of Nairobi respectively focused their research work on Oral hygiene Practices and gingival health among school children in Cameroon and dental health and oral health seeking behaviour among adults in Kenya.

Speaking, Mr. Thabo Mabe, Managing Director of Unilver Nigeria Plc  at the closing ceremony and award presentation to winners said Unilever Nigeria is proud to be associated with thes landmark event and cherishes its long standing association with the key stakeholders in the dental community within and outside Nigeria.

According to him, Unilever has a long history and partnership with the IADR, the Divisional and Hatton competition. Over the years, close to 900 students from around the world have had the opportunity to attend the  competition at the global level called the  IADR-Unilever Hatton Competition and have had the opportunity to share  their research findings with top dental scientists from around the world.

The two prize winners out of the fifteen participants at both senior and junior category of the IADR/Unilever Hatton competition will be fully sponsored to attend the next IADR event in Brazil in 2012.

He concluded that, Research, science, consumer satisfaction and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do at Unilever which gives the company opportunity and power to make a difference to the state of oral health around the world and that through this competition, we are not only recognizing and awarding world-class dental research; we are investing in the oral health of future generations.

The two prize winners, Azodo and Nwangi who are getting a total of two thousand four hundred dollars were excited about the prizes and commended Unilever for the unique opportunity to be a part of the huge dental programme at the global stage. According to them,' we are already looking forward to the trip and the experience we are likely to get when we get to Rio, Brazil'

The IADR conference is the first of its kind in the country according to Professor O. A  Fatusi the local organizing committee chairperson who commended Unilever for investing in the competition and the entire programme in the country.
