A National Youth Service Corps member, Amaka Amadi, was on Monday charged before a Surulere Magistrates' Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing two cheque books and N100,000 cash.

The Bank PHB and Oceanic Bank cheque books, according to the prosecution, were stolen from Ruba Securities Ltd, Lagos, while she was serving at the company.

The accused, 27, who is facing a four-count charge of stealing, forgery, impersonation and attempt to steal, however, pleaded not guilty.

But the prosecutor, Sgt. Raji Hakeem, told the court that the accused had on July 28 committed the offences at 131, Agege Motor Road, Mushin.

Hakeem, who put the value of the cheque books at N9, 000, alleged that the accused also forged an identity card belonging to a staff, Mary Ani and stole N100,000 cash from the company.

``The accused forged the identity card and impersonated Ani with the intention of withdrawing money with the cheques,'' he said.

Hakeem said the offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 465, 484 and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr M.K.O. Fadeyi granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He said the sureties should be relations of the accused and be gainfully employed.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 17 for further hearing.
