Two suspects accused of raping a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kano State have been remanded in prison custody by a Kano Chief Magistrate Court.

The suspects, Abba Garba 18 and Abubakar Sulemain, 17, were remanded in prison custody over their alleged complicity in the rape incident that took place in the Kano metropolitan area recently.

According to the charge sheet read out to the suspects in court, the suspects working in concert with two others now at large, conspired and stripped naked the corps member (name withheld) and had sexual intercourse with her on the fateful day.

The corps member said she was on her way to submit her letter of posting at her place of primary assignment (name withheld) located within Kano metropolis when she fell victim to the alleged rapists.

The charge sheet further stated that the accused persons and the two other suspects now at large took turns in having carnal knowledge of the victim against her will and approval.

However the two suspects denied the allegations.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Ibrahim Lawan told the court that the police are making frantic efforts to effect the arrest of the two other suspected persons said to be at large.

He added that the rape victim had undergone medical examination, though the full routine medical procedure is yet to be completed. He therefore prayed the court to adjourn the matter to another date for further mention.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Mariam Ahmed Sabo granted his request for adjournment, while ordering that Abba Garba be remanded in prison custody while Abubakar Suleiman be remanded at the Goron Dutse Juvenile Home.

She adjourned the case to the 16th of November, 2011 to enable the police complete their investigations and possibly apprehend the two other suspects involved in the shameful act.
