LAFIA-SECURITY has been beefed up in Lafia, capital of Nasarawa State ahead of todays's arraignment in court, of the former Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe-Doma over alleged corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The security measures sources said, was to forestall a situation wherby hooligans could be mobilised to cause confusion following the expected arraignment.

Since the arrest and subsequent detention of the former governor by the EFCC, there had been pockets of demonstrations for and against Doma by some of his loyalists as well as those of other political parties in the state.

Doma's Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, faithfuls in the state who see his detention as the handwork of his successor, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, had last week staged a rally against the action of the EFCC just as loyalists of the ruling Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in the state, demonstrated in support of his arrest with other former governors as well as their prosecution.

The Federal High Court Lafia, located along Shendam Road, which is believed to be the venue of the arraignment, has been cordoned off by security men including soldiers and mobile police men.

As at the time of going to the press, vehicles passing through the Shendam Road to the High Court were being subjected to thorough security checks even as pedestrians were not allowed to stop along the road or near the court premises.
