FLOOD WREAKS HAVOC IN MAKURDI

By NBF News

RESIDENTS of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, have lost properties worth millions of naira to flood caused by two days of heavy downpour.

Parts of the city worst hit by the flood include Gyado Villa area, Benue Brewery, some parts of North Bank, Wurukum, the two Idye villages in High Level as well as Agber and Achusa settlements.

In most of the places visited, houses were submerged, just as vehicle owners could not drive out of the waterlogged areas. Many of  them were seen trying to relocate some of their properties and families to safe areas.

At Wurukum where Flight Transport Company is located, the Assistant Manager, Moses Ikimba attributed the flood to blockage of the drainage in the area which in turn was caused by careless dumping of refuse into the drainage by some people.

He urged the Urban Development Board, as well as Sanitation Agency to live up to their responsibilities by evacuating refuse when due.
