Veteran journalist and second term member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon. Eziuche Chinwe Ubani, has allegedly called on some his constituents not to disturb him with requests for assistance.

Ubani, who represents Obingwa/ Osisioma Ngwa/ Ugwunagbo Federal constituency is said to be disgusted with the various pleas for assistance coming from his constituents who call him on his mobile number.

A source who spoke to pointblanknews revealed that Ubani is in the habit of not answering phone calls.”He does answer our phone calls since he was elected in 2007.He told us to send text messages, but he won't reply or react to the messages.”

Mr. Iheanyi Basil Nwosu, who hails from ward 2 (Ukpakiri) area of Ubani's home council, Obingwa, said that his motorcycle which he used for the Lawmaker's electioneering campaign , got burnt on the day of the election(April 9 th), due to electrical fault. He insisted that he has made several efforts through calls and text messages to reach the lawmaker , but each time, this has proved abortive as he won't pick his calls or reply text messages.

Nwosu said,” after I was advised by his friends and party chieftains, I called him and also sent another text messages, which he later replied with; ”Stop disturbing me please.” This is somebody I suffered for, during the election.”

Another constituents who preferred anonymity because of his closeness to Ubani, also displayed a similar text message to him by Ubani. He said,” since his first tenure, I have been pleading with him to assist me settle a problem I discussed with him. He promised to help but couldn't do so despite many efforts to remind him. He couldn't do it throughout the first four years. I sent him a text message last two week after he failed to pick my calls, to which he replied; “It is too early to start disturbing me now, I have many things to attend to.”

Mr. Adindu Micah, who hails from Ugwunagbo Council said he condemns Ubani's style of representation, but blames those who voted him for a second term. “This is somebody who didn't achieve anything in his first term, other than fixing his portrait to solar light MDG projects at Opobo and Obikabia junctions in Obingwa, and yet, was returned because of the PDP agreement in the state. How can you know the needs of the people whose mandate you exercise, if you don't interface with them?”

Another constituent, Ikenna Nwachukwu, ward 6 (Akpaa Osokwa) area of Osisioma Ngwa council, wondered why Ubani, whom he described as a friend of the youths before he assumed office, turned his back against the youths.” None of the promises he made to us over the last four years has been fulfilled, he cannot pick his calls or reply text messages, which he asked us to use. He should be recalled, until we employ this option, he will continue to take us for a ride.”

Pointblanknews checks revealed that Ubani, who chairs the House Committee on Climate Change, also hides from his constituents whenever he manages to visit home. It also said that he stays in an undisclosed hotel and invites his praise singers.”Even the praise singers won't know when he will sneak out of the hotel if he notices that some people he doesn't want to see, are among them”, a source added.

Pointblanknews also learnt Ubani was in the vanguard of the fight against the fomer Abia state governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, when he ran a column ,”Eziuche Ubani on Friday” in Thisday newspaper , where he took Kalu to the cleaners over alleged misrule of the state. He wrote articles like “Orji Kalu :  A disaster foretold” ; “Orji Kalu and his degree.”

Across the constituency, said a source, “the youths seem to have placed a lot of hope on the lawmaker, due to the chummy relationship he had with them before they elected him to the green chamber.”He was one who identified with youths and also fought against what he is just doing now, I wonder the sudden turn around.”

Efforts made to get the reaction of the lawmaker did not yield fruit. As if to confirm the allegations, Ubani failed to respond to calls and text messages made to his mobile number, 07059137632, as at the time of going to press.
