UNAD STUDENTS PROTEST FEES RE-INTRODUCTION

By NBF News

The aggrieved students as early as 8 am barricaded the two major roads to the campus and prevented motorists and other users access in and out of the university.

They displayed placards with inscriptions such as 'We want Governor,' 'we want Governor,' 'We say no to 200 Level School fees,' 'Extension of Registration date,' among others .

They chanted anti-government slogans and threatened to take the protest outside the campus if their demands were not addressed.

The leader of the students, Shittu Olalekan, blamed the institution's authorities for the illegal fees.

He said: 'There is a circular regarding the reduction of school fees from N100, 000 to N50, 000. The imposition of the fees came during Governor Segun Oni's regime. All students paid these fees then. Students most of whom are now in 200 Level got refund  of half  of what they paid in line with Governor Fayemi's orders which was contained in a circular and published in the dailies.

'To make matters worse, they are now saying students should pay the illegal fees before they can register for a new session. Some of the affected students are on holiday and have not resumed. Some are on industrial training and are just planning to wind up their programmes.
