EBONYI GOVT WOOS OPPOSITION PARTIES
ABAKALIKI - EBONYI State Government, yesterday, called on opposition political parties to cooperate with it for the state to move forward.
The government asked opposition parties to forget events during the last general election, cooperate with the administration for the sustenance of democracy in the state.
At a briefing, Commissioner for Inter-Party Dialogue, Mr. Jonah Egba, regretted incidences of violence that led to loss of lives and property during the last election.
Egba, who was later sworn in by Governor Martin Elechi despite complications that surrounded his screening at the House of Assembly, urged opposition parties not to only form the attitude of criticising the ruling party, but to also create an enabling environment that would guarantee smooth implementation of government's policies and programmes for the benefit of the state.
He argued that if dialogue as an integral part of conflict resolution was adopted by opposition political parties during decision-making, the state would not find it difficult in sustaining the level of peace and progress recorded so far.
Said Egba: 'We observed that during the last election, many lives were lost and property worth millions of naira destroyed. That is not what we are supposed to observe. Democracy is a system where people gather and make their choice. We know that there are many political parties and naturally only one political party must produce the governor at every given time.'
